Short answer: create a tax rate for each rate you charge, group them if several apply together, attach a tax group to each product, and add your tax number to the receipt layout.
Steps
- Go to Settings → Tax rates and add each rate: for example “Sales tax 8.25%”, “VAT 5%” or “Sales tax 16%”. Use the rate your authority sets for your location.
- If two rates apply to the same sale (for example a state and a city rate), create a tax group that combines them.
- When you add or edit a product, choose its applicable tax. Leave untaxed services without tax.
- Decide whether you enter prices inclusive or exclusive of tax. UAE washes usually enter VAT-inclusive prices; US washes usually enter prices before sales tax.
- Add your tax number to the receipt layout (for example the TRN in the UAE) so it prints on every receipt and invoice.
By country
- USA: sales tax is set by states and sometimes cities. Some states tax washing services; many tax retail items like air fresheners. Set the rate per location.
- UAE: VAT is 5%. Show prices including VAT and issue tax invoices where required.
- Pakistan: sales tax on services is set by the provinces and on goods federally. Ask your accountant which rate applies to your services.
We do not give tax advice; confirm rates with your accountant or tax authority.
