Connect an LPR camera

How licence-plate recognition connects to GetCarWashPOS through an integration: what your camera vendor needs to support, what we set up, and how to test it.

By Onboarding Desk · Updated

Short answer: your LPR vendor sends each plate read to GetCarWashPOS through the API connector; the POS looks up the vehicle and returns the member status to the lane. We set it up with you and your vendor.

What your vendor needs to support

  • Sending plate events to an outside system (webhook or API call) with the plate text and a lane or camera ID.
  • Showing a response on a lane screen or signal, if you want the answer displayed at the entrance.

Steps

  1. Tell the onboarding desk which LPR vendor and model you use.
  2. We create API credentials for your account and share the endpoint with your vendor.
  3. Your vendor configures the camera to send each read.
  4. Test with a member car, a past-due car and a non-member; check the answers.
  5. Agree what the attendant does in each case and write it on the pay station.

Privacy

Plates are personal data in many places. Store plates only on customers’ vehicles, post a notice that plates are read for membership checks, and set how long visit history is kept.
